Imagine a child you know, one that is close to you, a family member, or a friend. Now imagine that child gets kidnapped. If the child is a girl, she will be used as a sex slave; a boy, as young as 9, will be used as a soldier, going on to kill hundreds of innocent people. If the child is disobedient, a horrible death will come at the hands of the other children, having chunks of flesh bitten off until that child dies from blood loss.

Would you do anything you possibly could to save this child? What if it were your neighbor’s child or a friend of a friend’s child? What if it were a child that lived in your city or country? What if it were a child from Africa?

We always want to help the child, but depending on the distance, it can feel out of reach.

Thinking about a child you know in such a horrible scenario, allows you to begin to understand what people in Uganda, Sudan, Central African Republic, and Democratic Republic of the Congo go through at the hands of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). (more…)
